Queer (In)Time: NU Organizations

Northeastern’s queer students have had a documented presence on campus since at least 1986, where the student group NU Lambda’s phone number was listed in the resources section of the February 1986 edition of “The Guide to Gay New England” magazine. Through this ever-evolving student group, queer students traditionally have hosted numerous dance parties and drag shows as evidenced by flyers in the archives. Also acting as a resource and advocate for the community, the group has participated in campus activism including Day of Silence activities, AIDS awareness programming, endorsement of the Gender Neutral Housing proposal, and submitting the original proposal for the LGBTQA Resource Center.
Fun Fact: Though the group has changed its name a number of times (it was changed to “NU Alternative Lifestyles” around 1989, NUBiLaGA in 1991, and finally “NU Pride” around 2010), the group’s phone extension x2738 has persisted. Today, the LGBTQA Resource Center is the owner of this extension!
